Contributing
How to set up the Voxolith workspace, run the checks and open a pull request, and the policy on AI-assisted contributions.
The full guide is CONTRIBUTING.md; this is the short version.
Setting up
Voxolith is several repos that depend on each other, checked out side by side under one bun workspace:
mkdir voxolith && cd voxolith
git clone https://github.com/voxolith/renderer
git clone https://github.com/voxolith/engine
git clone https://github.com/voxolith/generators
git clone https://github.com/voxolith/examples{
"name": "voxolith-workspace",
"private": true,
"workspaces": ["renderer", "engine", "generators/*", "examples"]
}bun install
bun run --cwd examples devPull requests
- One topic per pull request; say what changed, why, and how you tested it (browser, OS, GPU).
- Run the repo's checks:
typecheck,verify,build, orgenerators/contract full. - For anything visual, look at it in a WebGPU browser and attach a screenshot.
AI-assisted contributions
Voxolith is itself built with AI assistance: almost all of its code and documentation is drafted with Claude, then directed, reviewed and run by the maintainer. AI tools are welcome on the same terms:
- you are the author, and can explain and change every line in review;
- you ran it, and looked at anything visual;
- you say so in the pull request, and keep any
Co-Authored-Bytrailer your tool adds; - you stay in scope: no unrequested rewrites or generated churn.
Please report security problems privately, through the repository's Security tab.
Troubleshooting
Fixes for WebGPU missing or slow, software adapters, lost devices, HTTPS on phones, blank canvases, share codes, big worlds on phones, loading text that does not update, a model or scene cache that stays cold and an app that does not load offline.
Research and credits
The published research Voxolith's techniques build on, what each paper contributed, and further reading for the renderer's next steps.
